Where’s Ballarat: Sew Special/Button Heaven from Buninyong
have re-located to a new, bigger and better store, Sew Darn
Special, in the suburb of Sebastopol, Ballarat. If you are coming
from Geelong, we are only another 10 minutes further down the
road. Coming from Ballarat, we are now a lot closer.
Where in Ballarat: From the centre of Ballarat, head south along
Skipton St and turn right into Rubicon St, at Eclipse Motors. We
are the last shop from the corner with plenty of parking out front
or in the rear carpark. From Geelong, simply turn left at Eclipse
Motors (a great place to send hubby while you browse).
Who plays host: Owned by Gael Fennell. All the hard work
is done by Jenny, Venessa, Belinda, Col and Lindy.Worth visiting because: We have now tripled the size of our old
shop in Buninyong. Our big news is that we now stock a large
range of wool. Check out all the latest in Noro, Sublime, Patons,
Amuri, Lang Yarns, Alpaca Yarns of New Zealand and many more.
New patterns, new yarns and colours arrive often. All the
favourites – haberdashery, gifts and buttons – are still available
and there are more than 7,000 buttons in stock. We pride
ourselves on being able to find the perfect button for your
project. Larger groups and bus tours are welcome. Parking is not
a problem, as there is a large carpark at the rear of the shop.

What we recommend: Our passion is still buttons, but who can
resist the feel of super-soft alpaca or delight in the colours of
hand-dyed New Zealand merino? Check out the great range of
fabric from Nutex quilting fabrics and the knitting accessories
made right here in the shop, using our range. If you plan to visit
for our buttons, bring your project with you, and we will be happy
to help find that certain button that will bring your work alive.

Where’s Tylden: Tylden is a lovely country town, 83km from
Melbourne, near the Macedon Ranges.Where in Tylden: 43 Trentham Rd, Tylden.
Who plays host: Sharon Boxshall.
Worth visiting because: We absolutely love all things knitting and
patchwork and, after moving to larger premises, we’re lucky to have
three rooms filled with wonderful fabrics, plus a lovely vintage cafe/
bar. We like to think of our store as the craft equivalent of a lolly
shop, where you’re sure to be filled with that sense of excitement
when you find your dream fabric. Not only do we have a wonderful
range of fabrics, but we also have a fantastic selection of wool
products, including Noro, Heirloom, Sirdar Sublime and speciality
sock yarns. We have an extensive selection of patterns and books
on patchwork, quilting, felting, knitting, crochet and sewing, so
whatever project you’re wanting to start on, inspiration is always at
hand. Stitch-and-Sew days and evenings are held throughout the
year and are always popular, so why not join in the fun?
What we recommend: Our recommendation is to just turn up and
see our new premises and be inspired by the quality of what we
have on of er. Then, enjoy a cof ee and cake after you have viewed
our fabulous collection of yarns and fabrics.
