PREPARATION AND CUTTING

1

Trace the shapes from the Pattern
Sheet onto paper, transferring all
the markings, glue them to thin
cardboard and cut them out carefully
on the lines.

2

Fold the white towelling in half,
trace and cut:

  • One standing alpaca body

  • One standing alpaca body gusset

  • One sitting alpaca body

  • One sitting alpaca body gusset

  • One head gusset

  • Two tails

  • One tail gusset

  • Two ears.

3

Fold the light tan fl annelette
in half, trace and cut:

  • Two faces

  • One face gusset

  • Eight feet

  • Four foot pads

  • Two ears.

4

Fold each of the geometric print
fabrics in half, and trace and cut
from each of them:

  • One blanket.

5

From the black felt, cut:

  • Four eyes.

6

Using the erasable marker, transfer
the markings for the ear positions
to the right side of the body shapes
and the opening positions onto the
wrong side of the body gussets.
Transfer the dots to the wrong side
of all the pieces where marked.

7

Fold the pattern for the standing
alpaca body gusset along the centre
line of each dart in turn and cut on the

curved lines to remove the dart
sections from the pattern. Open out
the pattern and place it on the wrong
side of the two standing alpaca body
gusset shapes you’ve cut from fabric.
Trace the dart ovals onto the fabric
with the erasable marker using the
pattern as a stencil.

8

Transfer the eye and mouth
positions onto the right side of
the faces with the erasable marker,
and the nose position onto the right
side of the face gussets.

STANDING ALPACA

9

Sew the darts in the body
gussets. To do this, fold the legs
up, right sides together, through
the centre of the dart, then sew
along the curved dart lines.

10

Sew the feet to the bottom
of the body and body gusset
shapes, right sides together and raw
edges aligned. Press the seams
towards the feet.

11

Sew the body gussets, right sides
together, along the top edge
between the A and B circles, leaving an
opening where indicated on the pattern.

12

Pin one side of the body gusset
to one body, right sides
together and matching the feet and
A and B circles. Sew from B around
the legs and back up to A, leaving the
bottom edges of the feet open. Repeat
this step for the other side of the body
and body gusset.

13

Match a towelling and fl annelette
ear shape, right sides together,

and sew the curved edges together,
leaving the bottom edge open. Repeat
this step with another pair of ear
shapes. Trim the seam allowances
and turn the ears right side out.

14

Fold each ear in half, fl annelette
sides together and raw edges
