PREPARATION AND CUTTING

1

The 3Chooks lampshade kit includes: one 20cm (8in)
diameter fitted ring; one 20cm (8in) diameter plain
ring; two lengths of 12mm (^11 ⁄ 2 in) cotton tape; adhesive
styrene sheet; and Helmar Crafter’s Choice Premium Craft
Glue. If you order a kit from 3Chooks, ask for the adhesive
styrene to be cut 20cm (8in) high.

Slip the needle through the thread loop on the wrong
side of the fabric and pull it tight. This secures the fi rst
stitch without leaving knots or bumps in the fabric, or
having to go back and weave in the tail.

2

Iron the evenweave fabric to eliminate creases. Wrap
the edges with masking tape to prevent fraying. Shannan
recommends mounting the fabric on a roller frame to reduce
distorting the fabric as you stitch. To start stitching, fold one
strand of embroidery cotton (about 24in long) in half, thread
both ends through the needle and insert the needle from the
back of the fabric in the hole at the bottom left corner of the
stitch. Don’t pull the thread all the way through – leave a
looped tail about 2in long on the back. Insert the needle in
the hole at the top right corner of the stitch.

4

Stitch the design by referring to the chart on pages
68-69. Work each cross stitch over four threads. To end
a thread, take the needle to the back, pass the needle and
thread under a few stitches and trim the end neatly.
