How did you feel when you first started
stitching? I think I was a bit overwhelmed,
because I hadn’t done embroidery before.
But I was also excited to learn something
new and explore the creative possibilities.

Has your response to your craft changed
since then? The ‘overwhelm’ has gone away.
But I’m still excited about using embroidery
creatively and I try to learn something new
as often as I possibly can.
What is it that keeps you creating? The
endless possibilities of combining fabric and
thread and colour. It’s wonderful.
Do you teach your skills? I write tutorials
on my blog and I also teach embroidery at
a lovely shop in London, called The Village
Haberdashery. I have written three embroidery
books, Stitched Blooms (Lark Crafts, 2013),
Romantic Motifs (Search Press 2016) and
Mandalas to Embroider (Search Press, 2017).
Do you like to participate in stitching
workshops or creative retreats? Yes,
I absolutely love participating in retreats and
workshops. It’s great to learn new things and
meet others who are interested in sewing
and embroidery, just like me.
Are flowers often featured in your designs?
They are. I love flowers of all kinds. I could
happily sketch flowers all day long.
What are your favourite hobbies and
interests? Other than embroidery, I love
to sew quilts and draw.
What do you wish for your creative future?
I hope I will be doing embroidery for many
years to come, and writing more books, as well.
