Amongst the restored and mildly modified humpy
Holdens, John McCulloch’s wild FJ custom stood out
like no other. “It was customised in the 60s by Colin
Dempster. I bought it off him in 1975 for $1400. I still
have the receipt!” he laughed. Since retiring in 2016,
John’s installed EH stub axles, diff and drums, then
changed the wheels to suit. The Holden grey motor
runs traditional hop-up gear; bored to just under 149ci,
it’s fitted with Mk III Zephyr rings, alloy timing gear, a
shaved head, extractors and Stromberg twin carbs
