AS THE TEAM WILL ATTEST, every issue I’m inclined to declare, “This one, this is my favourite
yet!” It’s become a running joke, but in all honesty, this issue that you’re holding right now really
has stolen my heart. You see, I’ve been intrigued by how the whole healthy living thing has quietly
infiltrated the world of interiors, and in this edition we’re delving deep into feel-good spaces.
When you stop and think about it, it makes perfect sense. As we become more and more digitally
saturated and plugged-in, creating a sanctuary at home, and really considering how the things we
surround ourselves with make us feel (really feel), has never been more important. From the rise
of allergy-friendly fabrics, to the renaissance of indoor plants and even incense (yes, really!), the
wellness revolution is changing the way we style our space.
It seemed like the perfect time to introduce a new feature called Modern Living, a piece where
we chat to readers who are living in interesting and sometimes unconventional ways. This issue
we catch up with a family of three who are happier than ever since shedding 80 per cent of their
possessions and becoming self-confessed minimalists (p36).
While turning over a new leaf as a minimalist may not be your thing (full disclosure: I’m not sure
I could do it), I do hope this edition inspires you to create a happy place at home. Whether it’s
a device-free room or just adding a bit of extra greenery, creating space for the little things that
bring us joy is perhaps one of the most rewarding design decisions we can make.
