5 DESIGN DETAILS
TO LOOK OUT FOR
WHEN YOU VISIT...

1 The spiral staircase that
echoes the building’s curves.
2 The five-metre ficus tree that
punches up through the central
staircase under the atrium.
3 The oak and white granite
deli counter and kitchen.
4 The zinc tabletops and walnut
Thonet chairs in the cafe.
5 The glass ceiling and vast
windows that flood the place
with natural light (and those
beaut Bondi Beach views!).

Let there be light!
The circular staircase is made
from a white powder-coated
perforated mesh, to allow
light to filter throughout the
entire space.

PURE PALETTE
“We researched the most appropriate colour
palettes for wellness, and found that green
evokes a sense of growth. It’s also said to be
very healing and calming, so we went with
a neutral palette of crisp whites with accents
of soft greens, contrasted by black trims and
oak panelling for the joinery,” Cushla says.

THIS GYM AND CAFE TAKES
A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO
WELLNESS – AND DESIGN

THE WELL
BONDI BEACH

Farm life
The cafe is open to members and visitors and
serves produce sourced from the owner’s farm
on the South Coast of NSW. “Our aim was to
capture the South Coast charm in the cafe, with
a rustic coastal feeling,” Cushla says.

All in one
The Well is a one-stop shop for
wellness, incorporating a gym,
complementary therapies (from
physio and nutrition to
naturopathy and psychology)
and a cafe. The team at interior
design studio TomMarkHenry
were charged with the fit-out.
“The design brief was to totally
transform the existing site,
which was originally
quite dark and poky, into a
light-filled wellness centre,” says
Cushla McFadden, director of
TomMarkHenry.
