Eight of the 12 concepts here are on custom
or aftermarket chassis. Whether it’s the
West Auckland–style Hilux chassis under the
Mad Max Falcon, aftermarket offerings from the likes
of Art Morrison, or custom shop–built or owner-
built tube frames, it would seem as though many
dream cars are built on custom foundations. Luckily,
we live in a country where, with an adequate
standard of workmanship and consultation of the
LVVTA’s Car Construction Manual, pretty much all of
these builds could be made road legal.

Reality Show
Jim McIndoe’s Running on Empty tribute seemed to be
the most likely of 2017’s concepts to make it to reality,
and now it’s actually happening. Jim already has the
1957 Chev 150 on which the build is based, and, as you
read this, he’s probably working on the thing. We’re
looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
