Buy now, wear for ages
It’s not just what you buy, but how you wear it that counts. And
that’s also true of the clothes already in your wardrobe. Here’s how
to restyle new and old favourites while you slim:
Boyfriend jeans are cut to fit loosely around your legs, which means
you can wear them for longer than other styles before they look too
big. Roll up the ankles and add a belt as your waist gets smaller, and
pair them with a semi-fitted top to balance the volume.
A great pair of leggings will fit for ages and, as long as you go for a
good-quality fabric, they’ll carry on looking smart. Ideal under a tunic.
Look out for four-way stretch denim. It retains its shape and sits
snugly against your figure without bagging, even if your measurements
go down a bit. Tesco, M&Co and Sainsbury’s all offer four-way stretch
denim at decent prices.
Trapeze-style tops will work whatever your size – the swingy
shape means they won’t cling around your tummy. They’ll just get
more floaty as you slim down.
A longline shirt is a versatile buy. Wear it buttoned up over
leggings, or open over a vest-top and jeans. As your size changes,
you can add a belt or tuck it in.

Moving down the sizes during your weight-loss journey is a real joy – it keeps your
motivation firing and shows you just how far you’ve come. There is a hitch, though.
Splashing out on smaller clothes can be expensive, especially if they only fit short term.
So what to do? With a bit of smart styling, you can wear the clothes you love for longer –
plus update your look and experiment with new trends. Sound good? Read on...
Grab a bargain
A bit of fast fashion is the perfect way to reward yourself while
you lose weight. If you know what to look out for and where, it’s
amazing what steals you can find!
Primark, Tesco, New Look and Asda are all brilliant haunts for
bargain lovers – from coats and dresses to bags and shoes. And there
are some great online stores, too, such as Boohoo, Wish and Missguided.
If you’re handy with a needle, you can make bargain buys look more
expensive by upgrading the buttons or hand-stitching machined hems.
Look for clothes on eBay and in charity shops. Someone else will
always be at a different stage of weight loss to you and you can
benefit from their closet clear-outs.
Invite your friends to a bring-and-swap party. It’s a fun way to
add a few new bits to your wardrobe without spending money.
