A
fter fi ve years of extensive
planning, Darren and Natalie
Hunt fi nally realised their vision
and built their dream family
home in the coastal town of Bundaberg,
Queensland. They wanted a house that
was truly their own and had a vision of a
modern, industrial style that would stand
up to the harsh North Queensland climate.
Darren and Natalie own a coastal
construction company and came up with
the concept themselves because they
wanted something unique to refl ect their
personality. They worked with a draftsman
to develop the fi nal plans.
As a builder, Darren knows everything
there is to know about building a house, so
when it came to creating his own family’s
dream home, he chose to combine AxonTM
vertical cladding with HardieFlexTM and
AxentTM Trim to provide the clean lines and
angles they have always loved.
“We wanted to create a strong visual impact
that provided contrast but still had the
industrial style we had our hearts set on,” says
Natalie. And Darren agrees, adding, “We both
love textures and wanted diff erent materials
to achieve the industrial look we were after.”
When building in coastal areas, selecting
the right materials is a critical part of the
design process. Axon’s cement composite
boards are durable and can stand up to the
harsh coastal climate. “We wanted to live
as close as we could to the ocean. Choosing
Axon means that our home will retain its
good looks for longer,” says Darren.
When asked what advice he would give to
someone looking to create their own dream
home, Darren suggests taking the time to
research the styles and fi nishes that they
fi nd appealing. “Layering of textures and
mixing external materials like cladding will
create a unique look and, when combined
with colour choices, the result will be the
ultimate individual statement,” he says.
It’s not just Darren and Natalie who love
their new home; neighbours, family and
friends also comment on how great it looks.
“We could not be happier with the fi nished
result and seeing our home come to life was
something very special,” says Darren.
