06: DESIGN SUBURBAN DELIGHT
LOCATION NORTH SHORE, SYDNEY
A clever reconfi guring of this house wrought a
major transformation that provided this family
with not one but two internal living rooms,
as well as a vast outdoor space that fl ows
seamlessly from the rear family room out to
the covered patio through large glass folding
doors. The front living space, which was once
the old verandah, has been transformed with
the addition of timber slats on the facade of
the house that provide a sculptural quality to
the front elevation and off er privacy. Once a
dim area due to the covered verandah, the new
living/dining area at the front of the house can
be opened up thanks to sliding glass doors that
sit snugly behind the timber slats, allowing light
and fresh air to fl ow freely into the space and
create a more pleasant entertaining experience
for the homeowners.

07: DESIGN OHANA
LOCATION PYMBLE, SYDNEY
Creating a family home is one of the most
personal and challenging tasks any homeowner
can undertake. Wanting to create interiors
that are “sleek and refi ned with an eco edge”,
the designer utilised materials collected by
the homeowners from Indonesia, giving them
a personal hand in creating the spaces that
echo their collective family ethos. “We gave
our designer a list of things we loved and
asked her to integrate them into our home,”
says homeowner Malcolm. “Our thoughts and
wishes were translated into tangible objects
and designs that were beautiful and practical.”
Despite the eco-friendly materials, the house
doesn’t lack for modern comforts. A media and
games room is fully tricked out with games
tables and media centre to provide a place
where the whole family can gather together
in shared harmony.
