shuttered up for almost two years now and
locals have been forced to drive 60km just
to quench their thirst. However CSD, which
bought the building this year to supplement
its regional workforce accommodation, has
announced it will reopen the pub to the
general public before Christmas.
When the company bought it earlier in
the year from the mortgagee in possession
it refurbished the town landmark to provide
worker accommodation for Mount Garnet’s
restarted operations and supplement the
60-room camp at the Surveyor mine site with
another 35 rooms in the hotel.
CSD managing director Ralph De Lacey
said as part of the purchase the company had
also taken over the pub’s liquor license and
would soon provide meals and drinks for
employees, before gearing up to reopen to
the public before Christmas.
De Lacey said the pub building was a
landmark steeped in character and history
and it would be good to restart the town’s
social hub.
He said it would not be a distraction for
the company but if there were any problems
caused by opening to the public then it
would simply keep it open just for CSD’s
own staf. However, De Lacey said the locals
were looking forward to seeing it open and
so was he.
