Australian 4WD Action – July 2019

(sharon) #1

  • Tuned up to 650Nm & 150Kw

  • 3in turbo back Exhaust with 2in crossover pipe

  • Just Autos remap

  • NPC1300Nm Clutch

  • Harrop E Lockers

We know a V8 Cruiser has plenty of power from the showroom –
but the thing that’s great about these engines is the amount of
extremely safe power you can get out of them. Cooky has
comfortably got 650Nm out of it with a remap, snorkel and
exhaust. The turbo back exhaust makes this Cruiser sound
sweeter than happy hour being called at your local.
When you add power to V8 Cruisers – quite often the clutch
won’t handle the extra force being put through it. Jack upgraded
his to the NPC1300Nm Clutch to handle that extra torque.

ENGINE & DRIVELINE

  • 7 inch Lift with Dobinson Coils

  • Superior Engineering Remote Res Shocks

  • Super Flex Arms from Superior Engineering

  • 35in Maxtrek MT Tyres

One of the first things you notice about this Cruiser is how it’s
sitting – more specifically – how bloody high it’s sitting! We can
only assume the biggest question Cooky gets is about this lift.
What he’s added is a 7 in lift all round with Dobinson Coils and
Superior Engineering Remote Res Shocks.
He’s also added Superflex Arms in the front to make this thing
more of an animal on the tracks. Overall he has a setup that’ll
carry his weight well – and will help him get up most tracks in
Australia. Well done mate – what a setup!

SUSPENSION & CHASSIS

ell ya what – there’s not
much that gets us going
at 4WD Action HQ like a
quality 79 build. Maybe
it’s the photographers who can’t
get enough of hearing them roar
with a big exhaust. Maybe it’s the
insane canopies on the back of
them. Maybe it’s that a lot of
them are being built to go to 4WD
hotspots we wish we were at.
Whatever it is – it all adds up to
us drooling over a few. We see a
lot come through – but none
quite like this.
Enter Jack Cooke – the
absolute legend QLDer who we
reckon has built one of the more
unique 79 LandCruisers out
there.
Why is it unique? The way he’s
been able to shove so much lift
underneath, with it still being
extremely driveable and still set
up to handle 3-4 weeks in the
Kimberley. If you looked up tough
tourer in the dictionary – there’d
be a photo of Cooky’s 79! Let’s
take a better look.
