MONA | HOBART
If you mention MONA, Tasmania, edgy art is the first
thing that will come to most people’s minds. And yes,
that’s certainly the subversive gallery’s main drawcard,
but if you enjoy a tipple, for only $15 you can take a
journey beneath the famous gallery into a wonderful
world of winemaking. Moorilla is Tasmania’s second
oldest vineyard, and the wine it’s producing is superb. On
the tour you can watch as the grapes are loaded into
barrels and the winemaking process begins, and you can
also taste wine straight from the barrel. The educative
tour ends up in an intimate tasting room where guests can sample
many of the wines on offer, and if you make the request, you can meet
Canadian-born winemaker Conor van der Reest. His wine career
kicked off in Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula, and since then he’s explored
the new and old worlds of wine in the Languedoc and Champagne
regions, Marmara Sea, and Australia’s King, Hunter, Alpine and Yarra
valleys. There’s no need to book if you’re a small group — just turn up.
If you are a fan of Tassie bubbles, make sure you try the 2015 Praxis
Sparkling Riesling, and you can’t go to any cellar door in Tasmania
and not try the Pinor Noir offering. Wine writer Nick Stock said: “The
most recent Muse Pinot Noir from 2013 is a moment of triumph for
Moorilla. It’s a stunning wine and one of the best of the vintage.”
Cellar door tastings are from 9:30am–5pm, Monday–Wednesday.

YOGABAR | SYDNEY
Inverting the body-punishing fitness craze on its head, YogaBar
is a veritable sanctuary in the middle of Sydney’s CBD. Here the
focus is not simply placed on your body and its imperfections, but
equally on your state of mind. For the novices keen to embrace
their inner Zen, level one classes cover the basic breathing
techniques and postures, giving you a foundation to trial some of
the studio’s more difficult classes; including YogaBar Hot, where
the temperature gets adjusted to a balmy 34 degrees so that you
can sweat it out while moving from one pose to the next; and
YogaBar Reformer, a machine-based resistance class that helps
you develop your core strength. For busy executives, YogaBar Zen
— a meditation class that helps you to turn your mind away from
some of the stress and bustle of your day-to-day life — comes
highly recommended. And after working your body from the
outside, you can stop by YogaBar’s café and nurture your body
from the inside. If you’re on the run, try a Superstar Workout
smoothie, or a delectable raw caramel slice. Otherwise, treat
yourself to a wholesome bircher pot or Mexicola Chicken salad.
