Do you

Do you need a

posing coach?
The next time you think “What
should I do with my hands?” before
taking a selfie, check out the tips from
David Suh (right), a self-taught dancer
and self-proclaimed “posing coach”,
who offers advice to four million
followers on TikTok. “The thing
people get wrong about posing on
social media is they think it’s to do
with being photogenic,” he says.
“Posing is just a way of
communicating with your body.” Suh
believes that anyone can take a great
photo if they get their angles right.
“Bring your chin out by separating
it and your neck from your body.
Even though it feels a bit funny at
first — you might feel like a turtle
— it helps deepen the shadows on
your neck. Which helps accentuate
your beautiful jawline and avoid
any double chin.” He also suggests
lengthening your silhouette with
an extended arm or leg and tilting
your hips so you emphasise your
curves. Well, it’s much more useful
than our “just do jazz hands, pouty
lips and hope the Nashville filter
can do the rest” technique.

Throw your hands in the air:
get ready for ecstatic dancing
Did Mr Big kill the Peloton class? Possibly. Well, yippee for those of us
who crave something a bit more chilled out, because the new fitness
fad involves, erm, no specific skills and can be practised by anyone at
any age. “Ecstatic dancing” has its roots in the maenads of ancient
Greece and is also important in shamanism, where it is believed it
can alter consciousness, as well offering connectivity (a good selling
point in an age of anxiety). To put it more simply, it’s literally dancing
like nobody is watching. So for those of us who fancy ourselves as a
back-up hip swiveller for Christine and the Queens or are just
boogying to (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life in our kitchens, this is the
no-stress workout for you. Search for 5 Rhythms (the best-known
classes; 5rhythms.com), anywhere there’s a town hall.
