STUFF TO DO

4WDing is allowed along Ninety Mile Beach as well as on
McLaughlins Beach, which is accessible via a track running
behind the dunes.
Fishing the beach can be productive for a number of cool
water species. Tailor and Australian salmon are caught on
metal slugs and pilchard baits year round, while gummy sharks
and jewsh are targeted on fresh mullet and tailor slab baits
during the warmer months.
Surng is possible on any number of sandy peaks along
the length of Ninety Mile Beach. The prevailing southerly

swell is consistent for most of the year, while offshore winds are
most common during the autumn and winter months. Beware of
chilly water temperatures even in summer!
IMPORTANT INFO

Free camping is available in the dunes at the Reeves Beach
Coastal Reserve campground in the dunes behind the

T

he 90 Mile Beach campground is a winsome little spot nestled among the shroud-
ed dunes of East Gippsland. The location offers level grassy sites in a gully behind
the beach, shaded by manna gum and banksia trees.
The coastal reserve offers free camping and is located just 100km north of Wilsons
Promontory and 230km east of Melbourne. Facilities are pretty basic, but that helps
to keep the crowds at bay and it’s perfect for self-sufcient campers.
Ninety Mile Beach is a rst rate spot for those looking to experience the pristine
Gippsland coast in all its unadulterated glory. Winter’s the prime time to make a break
for the Gippsland Coast, to bask in the warmth of a crackling re and soak up the
soothing salt air.
