FAVOURITES
JORDAN SPIETH
The reigning Open Champion tees up in just
his fi fth appearance at the Masters this month,
already possessing a record at Augusta that is one
of the best in the modern era.
Taking his collapse of 2016 out of the equation,
no one plays Augusta better than Spieth – even
when his game is not at its peak.
He has learned how to play this layout in a very
short period of time and his game is well-suited
to it.
Much of Spieth’s success has come in waves
throughout his still young career. He captured
his fi rst win on tour in 2013, then went winless in
2014, then won fi ve times (including two majors)
in 2015 only to win three times with no majors in
- Last year, he won three times including the
Open at Royal Birkdale, which was his last victory
to date.
At 24, he’s tracking alongside the likes of Jack
Nicklaus and Tiger Woods for major victories and
he will like his chances for a fourth major – and
second green jacket – at this Masters.
WHY HE CAN WIN: While the big hitters have an
obvious advantage, especially if the conditions are
soft, Augusta is very much a feel player’s course
... where players with a range of shots from the
fairway and around the greens can score well
and there are few better than Jordan Spieth in
this department.
