Piloting: Aside from the fact that
you’re high in traffic, there isn’t
much else to get excited about when
discussing the driving experience of
a four-wheel-drive ute. The Ranger
we had was top-of-the-line and had
every gadget you can imagine,

including distance measuring cruise
control, GPS, lane drifting alarms
andleatherseats,butmostutesare
pretty basic. And they drive like
trucks with stretched, small-capacity
diesel engines which need to be
revved.Itwilldoeverythingyou
need just not with the same comfort
asaCommodoreorLandcruiser.

Fifth wheels: Plenty of room for the
family with five seats. We were able
to fit three bikes in the tub and then
five humanoids in the ute. The only

problem is, once we’d loaded the tub,
we couldn’t find anywhere for our
stinky gearbags?

Motel on wheels: Without being
able to hide from the elements, you’ll
want a pretty good swag. And you’ll
also want to be short, with the dual
cabtubnotstretchingallthatfar.

Cash money: Not the most expensive
but you pay for the four-wheel-drive
factor. $$$
