Australasian Dirt Bike — January 2018

WE’VE HAD A few setbacks
over the last month, which is
not ideal, but our goal
remains the same, to be
lining up behind the gates
for the first round of the
AMA Supercross
Championship at A1.
I was so bummed not to be
able to ride at the AUS X
Open in Sydney. It is one
event I really look forward to
each year. Unfortunately,
when I was practicing for Red
Bull Straight Rhythm, I
slightly over-jumped, which
resulted in two fractures to
my ankle.
After having it assessed by
specialists it was decided
that the best chance for a
fast recovery was to have
surgery, which ruled me out
of competing in Australia. I
am thankful that I was still
able to make the trip to
Sydney and be at the event
even though I couldn’t ride. It

was awesome to catch up
with so many of you, as well
as friends, and my family.
The AUS X Open is an
amazing event and it
continues to grow. Adam
Bailey and his team at AME
Management have done a
fantastic job and I am excited
about its future, especially
with the announcement that
[former Supercars boss] Tony
Cochrane has joined
as chairman. This is one
event I can say I definitely
want to come back to contest
next year.
I can now confirm that I am
going to race a Husqvarna
next season. It is looking like
I will go it alone as a
privateer and have fun doing
it at a lower level. We will not
be running at the same level
as we did with TwoTwo
Motorsports but we will do it
right. As I said in my last
column, straight up I really

likethebikeandIknowwe
can continue to develop it to
be more competitive.
As part of the process of
going down this path, we are
making some changes to how
things have been done in the
past. This means we are now
doing our own deals and
really carving our own path.
It is a little scary but also
good to be in total control of
our destiny.
While I was in Australia,

Ellie was busy at home in
Florida working on new
partnerships for 2018. I am
stoked to confirm we have
teamed up with Pretty
Rebels to create a fresh line
of CR22 merchandise.
I am really excited about
the launch of this gear.
We have had a lot of
requests from fans
worldwide wanting
something cool to wear to
show their support and
represent 22.
This range of merchandise
is different and has
something for everyone so
make sure you check it out
at shopprettyrebels.com/
collections/cr22.
Right now though, I am
back at home in Florida with
the family and the focus is
on getting my ankle right so
I can get back to riding and
training and make sure I am
ready for A1 on 6 January.
