Whatever you are facing next,
learn everything there is to know
about the subject. If you are
prepared and knowledgeable,
you will be self-confident.

Create a gratitude list
Sometimes life can get too much
for us, and these challenges make it
difficult to keep up our self-belief.
If this happens, try making a
list of all the things you are grateful for in
your life, and a separate list of all the things
you are proud of accomplishing (no matter
how small). Once complete, pin the lists up
somewhere you will regularly see them.
This will remind you what a great life you
already lead — it can be especially powerful
when your self-confidence is waning.

Start a notebook and write down the answers
to these questions. (Keep it somewhere close
— perhaps at your bedside or a pin board next
to your desk — and read it each evening.)


  • What are your goals and why are they
    important to you?

  • Why do you want to achieve them?

  • Reflecting on your fitness journey so far, how
    do you feel as a person since changing your
    lifestyle?

  • What are some of the negative things that
    you are rid of in your life since starting a
    fitness lifestyle (for example, old habits or
    negative thoughts)?

  • What are the things you love about your
    new, healthier self?


This is an important exercise, because our
choices are mainly influenced by mindset
and the story we are telling ourselves. If we
naturally make healthy choices and believe
in our ability to do so, our fitness journey will
become far less of a struggle.

TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
The way we think has a great impact on the
way we live our daily life and the choices we
make. Self-confidence won’t happen
overnight, but you can take steps to cultivate
the right mindset and slowly start acting as if
you are confident. It might be starting with eye
contact and smiling at people, or writing a list
of goals and the person you need to be to
achieve these goals. The greatest reward can
be gained from improving your mindset, and
so it’s worth investing in yourself, as you can
achieve anything you put your mind to!
