HAPPY

NEW YEAR

I

’m all for the saying ‘New Year, New
You’, but I’m all for tweaking it a little bit
as well. New Year’s is an amazing time
to set goals and feel motivated about the
fresh new year ahead of you. The ideation
everyone seems to have about a ‘new you’,
though, is something I don’t really buy into;
I prefer to frame this idea of how we think of
ourselves a different way.
What about an improved you, or a more
accepting you, or a healthier you? While we’re
on that, let’s talk about you. Let’s talk about
how self love, positivity, and the power of your
mind can help you to have the best year yet.
No one else is you, so why try and be
someone else? Think about people who you
admire. It might be a celebrity or a local hero;
it might be your mum or a friend.
Well, guess what? Someone looks up to you
too. I know some of you are thinking, ‘pffft,
no they don’t’ — well, stop that, because they
do! You might not even know this someone; it
might be someone you pass on your morning
walk every day who admires your hair or your
motivation. Everyone is admired in some way
or form, and that’s what makes you special and
different.
To live a fulfilled life, we must feel good
within ourselves first. Sometimes we have to
treat ourselves as first priority. It’s not selfish;
it’s just what we need to do in order to be the
best version of ourselves, and also what we
need to do to help the people around us.

This New Year, let’s do something shape-shifting and make it about

becoming healthier, improved versions of ourselves, of transforming

what is already there by harnessing the power of the mind to make 2018

our best year yet, the year we live our best version of ourselves.

When you’re happy, the people around
you are happy. It’s like a ripple effect. People
benefit from people, and we bounce off each
other’s energies.
One thing to be conscious of coming into
2018 is choosing where to focus your energy.
You might not realise it, but the smallest
negative thought can steal a good amount of
energy away from you.
Choose to use your energy doing and
visualising the things you truly desire in life.
We have between 50,000 and 70,000 thoughts
a day. Controlling all of these thoughts is
impossible, but choosing which thoughts we
give attention to isn’t.
What a lot of people don’t realise is that you
have the power to change things in your life
for the better, really quickly. Your mind is so
powerful! You know the Law of Gravity? How
if you drop a pen it will fall to the ground?
Well, the Law of Attraction has been proven to
be just as powerful as the Law of Gravity. You
just need to know how to use it.
In short, the Law of Attraction says that like
attracts like. So if you put a positive thought
out into the universe, you will get it back. If
you visualise something, and completely feel
the feelings of having that something as your
own, you will attract that something into your
life.
It’s that simple. The mind can’t tell the
difference between imagination and real life.
So get visualising and trick your mind into

making what you want a reality.
Look at it like this. You order something
online, pay for it, put your address in, and it’s
yours, right? It’s coming. Treat the universe
just like that.
Ask for what you want, truly believe that it’s
coming, and then be thankful when you receive
it. Gratitude is one of the highest vibrations
you can put out into the universe. Do you
really think you will attract good things into
your life if you’re not thankful for what you
already have? Absolutely not.
I had a pretty amazing experience myself
this year. I was living in America and was
having a really hard time adapting to the
hectic ‘La La Land’ life. I found the acting
industry competitive and judgemental, I
wasn’t making any good friends, I was getting
frustrated with the lack of auditions and
meetings, and I was getting down because I
wasn’t surrounded by the people I love.
I was in a rut, and I wasn’t helping myself
by wallowing in it. Let’s face it. Sometimes it’s
easier to wallow in it. We don’t have to make
the effort to be happy and positive; we can
sit there and do nothing, cry, and get some
attention! It’s natural, normal, and okay!
But I decided enough was enough. I started
meditating, and through my meditation I was
eventually able to quiet my mind and get the
answers I had been looking for. If you don’t
meditate or aren’t spiritual, you will probably
laugh at this! I used to turn my nose up at
