A
nother hallmark of
Katherine Tilton’s designs
are their built-in versatility.
On the facing page, that shirt
does double duty as an easy,
lightweight and very modern
jacket ... a perfect layering piece
over a bright tank or knit top,
and - because it’s Spring! - some
terrific slim pants splashed with
colourful florals. The pants have
tucked details and two deep
pockets on the front leg which
not only add design interest but
also are highly practical; - Perfect
for travelling! An extra deep hem
offers the versatility to wear the
pant long or to roll up the finished
hem for a cropped look.
That versatility also extends
from day to night. An easy,
interesting shirt over slim pants
is also a great look to take from
day to dinner to evening, with
a clever change of colour and
fabric, which distinctly changes
the attitude from easygoing
casual to something more
dressed, but not too formal. We
see it on this page with the shirt
now in a sophisticated jewel
tone (Butterick recommends
broadcloth, linen, chambray,
shirting, or stretch wovens for
the fabric) over dark pinstripes
for the now-unrolled pants,
(recommended i n stretch twill,
stretch poplin, stretch denim, or
stretch sateen. )
