T

he title of her new book may
suggest otherwise, but don’t
think for a second that Anna
Faris is Unqualified to dole
out relationship advice.
Having been married twice –
previously to actor Ben Indra and currently
to Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt,
from whom she ‘legally separated’ in August

  • the 40-year-old has had her share of trials
and tribulations in the love department.
But Anna admits it took a while to grasp

THE STAR OPENS

UP ABOUT ACTING,

ADULTING AND

DISHING OUT ADVICE

MUM LIFE
‘It’s just so fascinating
watching him become
a person,’ Anna says of son
Jack, who has inherited his
parents’ hilariousness. ‘I try [to
discipline him], but I can’t help
but laugh. He'll be like, “Mum,
I have cheese foot! My foot
smells like cheese!”
He’s so funny!’

her own mother’s advice ‘to be selfish in
love’. ‘I later realised she meant to protect
my heart and look out for myself and let
a partner rise to that,’ she explains.
‘There was a time when I was willing to
marry any cute boy that looked at me. I felt
like if someone was attractive and wanted
to hook up, it was a validation of my own
identity,’ Anna continues. ‘In my twenties,
I thought it was cool to say I was a guys’
girl. I didn’t realise until later how lame
I sounded, bragging as though having
a lot of girlfriends was a bad thing.’
Now, the actress admits she’s definitely
learnt her lesson when it comes to matters
of the heart. ‘I was once told that I didn’t
need a tight group of girlfriends because
Chris should be my best friend. But I never
bought that,’ she says. ‘The idea of your
mate being your best friend – it’s overhyped.

I really believe that your partner serves one
purpose and each friend serves another.’
Here, Anna spills on all things love and life

  • and why she enjoys talking to strangers!

UNQUALIFIED ANNA
It was Anna’s childhood obsession with advice-
style talk shows that sparked the idea for
her very own podcast. ‘Instead of cartoons,
I’d watch Sally Jessy Raphael and was always
reading Dear Abby and other relationship
and advice columns, too,’ she shares.
So, on a whim, Anna ordered microphones
and invited a few friends over to discuss their
relationship dramas, dilemmas and delights

  • but didn’t expect anyone to listen to what
they had to say. ‘It was like a therapy session
    we recorded,’ she admits.
However, with the help of longtime
pal Sim Sarna, the actress’ podcast,

IN LOVE’
