Since its inception in 2012, the
TransWorld Motocross Race Series
has gained a tremendous follow-
ing from local Southern California
residents, but the series has also
gained National attention as more
and more racers from the surround-
ing states have begun to throw their
hats into the ring at each round.
Longtime TWMXRS attendee and
frequent Pro class front-runner Kai
Mukai fits into the category of “out-
of-towners,” as he hails from Hilo,
Hawaii. Mukai got his start at the
TWMXRS in the Novice division,

but at the time he was still living in
Hawaii full-time. “My mom works for
Hawaiian Airlines, so I was fortunate
enough to get free flights to and
from each round,” Mukai explained.
“After the races, I would clean up all
my stuff and then fly back home to
attend school.”
Fast-forward to present day and
you’ll see that the Hawaiian made
the move up to the Pro ranks at the
2017 Oakland Supercross and plans
to do even more in 2018. “Growing
up in Hawaii it was always a dream
of mine to race Supercross with

the fastest guys in the world, but at
times it seemed impossible because
of where I was living, so it’s very
rewarding knowing that I accom-
plished what I set out for!” Mukai
said. “It wasn’t easy, but I wouldn’t
change a thing because this experi-
ence has taught me so much.”

The TWMX Race Series is proudly
supported by SPY Optic, Yamaha,
Bell, Boyesen, ODI, Race Awards,
MTA, Neken, Action Sport Canopies,
Next Components, and Spectro Oils.
