Last May Glamour’s Jillian Davison jetted to sunny
Havana to take in Chanel ’s cruise 2017 show.
With the collection hitting stores this month, we had
a few questions about all that chicness!

  1. WTF is “cruise,” anyway?
It’s the midseason collection, also known as
“resort,” which arrives in stores in Novem-
ber (most “fall” is already gone). Typically it
stays till February—actually longer than the
    main seasons—and includes the transi-
    t ion a l pie c e s m a ny of u s w e a r y e a r -r ou nd.

    1. A fashion show. In Cuba. Explain!
While airlifting a fashion empire nearly
4,800 miles away from its Paris headquar-
ters is hugely complicated, we’re talking
about Karl Lagerfeld here. “He can take a
pin and choose anywhere on the map,” says
Davison. “Looking at this collection, I could
see that Karl was clearly inspired by Hava-
      na’s Latin culture, colorful architecture,
and people, so it made sense to have an al
fresco show on the Paseo del Prado, a main
promenade in the city. I started my career
at Chanel, so I know firsthand the meticu-
lous detail that goes into everything the
company creates. Working there made me
realize I wanted to be a fashion editor.”
