They’d known each other throughout their childhood, and it became one of those situations: can a bloke ask his best

friend’s cousin to go out with him? Eventually, Liam, 28, ‘worked up the courage to make a move’, says Michaela, 25.

Not long after, Liam hid a diamond ring in a sock in his backpack, as the couple set off on a European holiday.

CARRY ON Liam carried the engagement ring he had
custom made for Michaela in his backpack for four
weeks before they arrived in Paris. There, he took
Michaela to lunch in a Michelin-starred restaurant, then
to dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurant, organised a
surprise room change (from backpackers to five-star),
he’d also composed a cryptic puzzle and poem as part
of his proposal. ‘It was amazing,’ recalls the bride, ‘and
completely over the top, in true Liam style.’

SLINKY IN SILVER ‘I’d always wanted a bias-cut,
backless dress,’ says Michaela. She found the beaded
mesh fabric first, then together with Helen Manuell, of
Manuell & Moore, she says ‘I meshed all the features of
dresses I had tried and liked, to create the perfect dress
for me.’ It was important to Liam and Michaela that the
bridal party should look amazing and special. For her
bridesmaids, Michaela chose short Ted Baker dresses
that were ‘vintage, fun, romantic and unusual’.
