WORDS: NATALIE FILATOFF.

GRAND PASSION Paula’s rings are a reflection of her meeting Aaron at
the car rally: the white-gold engagement ring has a winding road paved in
rose gold — symbolising the rally track, and studded with green sapphires
for the trees. ‘There is a diamond set in the spot that we first spoke,’
explains Paula. ‘My wedding band is the grandstand ring: a black diamond
symbolises Aaron, a Kiwi, and a yellow sapphire is me. As the wedding band
moves on my finger, we are watching different parts of the rally track on the
engagement ring.’

MEMORABLE MOMENTS Paula says some of the most special
moments of the day were: seeing one another for the first time as she
walked down the hill to the rock garden; the moment of remembrance during
the ceremony for people who were no longer with them; and sitting around
the fire pit in the pavilion, toasting marshmallows after dinner. The party
danced to favourite tunes played from an iPod.

EVERLASTING BLOOMS The
couple bought or designed all their
wedding stationery. A bicycle with
flowing streamers was a consistent
motif. Bomboniere bags held M&Ms
in gold, black and pearl, customised
with photos of the bride and groom.
Together with their families they
decorated the pavilion for the
reception in a vibrant deep blue, hot
pink and cream colour scheme, making the
monogrammed table runner and placemats themselves, and arranging silk
flowers in kraft-paper-wrapped tins and jars.
