How to make it your last...

L

ife’s fi ne and dandy until your
skin freaks out in winter. Less
than two per cent of Australians
ever go to a dermatologist,
which means when our skin
goes haywire we have no idea
how to sort it. “When people have a skin
problem, they’ll take recommendations
from the postman!” says dermatologist
Dr Sam Bunting. “They freak out and they
try everything, which invariably makes
the problem worse.” So what should you
do? We’ve spoken to dermatologists to
fi nd out the real answers to everything
from breakouts to eye bags. So forget
what the postie says and follow these tips.

LESS IS MORE
“The average woman has 65 products
on her bathroom shelf at any one time,”
says Dr Bunting. “It’s disastrous for your
skin to bombard it with so many different
formulations, so the first thing I get my
patients to do is to strip back their routine
and declutter their skincare devices and
makeup. You need a regime that’s simple,
effective and fits with your day-to-day life.
It takes at least six weeks for your skin to
turn the corner - you won’t stick to a regime
that long if you don’t like using the products.”
