27
Match the dungarees front and
back, right sides together, and
pin. Machine stitch the side and leg
seams, matching the leg hems
carefully. Turn the dungarees right
side out and press them well.
28
Press under a narrow hem on
the bottom edges of both facing
shapes and machine stitch them in
place. Match the two facing shapes,
right sides together, and machine
stitch the seams on each side.
29
Slide the facing over the
top of the dungarees,
matching the side seams; the
right sides of the facing and
dungarees fabric should be together.
Pin the shoulder straps to keep the
layers even, then machine stitch
all the way around the shoulder
straps and underarms. Clip the
curves and turn the facing to the
inside of the dungarees, gently
pushing the shoulder straps
through. Press well.
30
Put the dungarees on the
elephant. Poke the tail out
through the opening in the centre
back seam. Overlap the end of the
back shoulder straps on the front
ones and hand stitch them
together neatly at the shoulders.
Pointy hat
31
With right sides together,
machine stitch the short
ends of the hatband together. Turn
it right side out.
32
Fuse the rectangle of batting
to the wrong side of the yellow
stripe print fabric. With the stripes
running straight down the centre,
cut one hat shape from the padded
fabric using the pattern from Step 1.
33
With right sides together, sew
the straight edges of the hat
together to make a cone shape and
turn it right side out.
34
Slide the hatband over the hat,
right sides together and centre
back seams matching, so the raw
edges are even. Blanket stitch the
raw edges together by hand.
35
Fold the hatband back over
itself so the other raw edge
extends just slightly over the previous
seam. Stuff the hat until just fi rm and
pin it to the elephant’s head, tilting
it slightly to one side. Stitch the hat
to the head, turning the raw edge
of the hatband under as you go so
no raw edges are visible at all.
36
Stitch the turquoise felt ball
to the pointed tip of the hat
to fi nish.
