HOW I DID IT
Heat in these times goes
hand in hand with climate
change. This photograph
is an amalgamation of
four different photographs
from three different
countries, and aims to
depict the imminent horror
of climate change, with
symbolic representations
of loneliness and the
increasing destruction
of vegetation.

DETAILS
Canon EOS 500D,
17-85mm lens, various
shutter speeds,
apertures and ISOs.
Three images composited
in post-production.

HOW I DID IT
To get this shot I had to stumble through 17km of
black lava in the night as it was too hot in the day
to make the journey. The Afar Desert in Ethiopia
is known for being the hottest place on earth
reaching temps of 58°C or more. Over shaking
ground and among spitting lava balls it was a
matter of finding a safe and stable place for my
tripod. The heat coming off the lava was intense.

DETAILS
Canon EOS 7D, 17-55mm lens @ 17mm, 25s @
f/11, ISO 500, tripod. Photoshop for sharpening
and noise reduction.
