Olympus unveils retro PEN-F
Olympus has released the latest model in the PEN compact camera
series, the PEN-F.
Olympus says the PEN-F is designed for reportage, documentary and
travel photography. It uses a new 20-megapixel Live MOS sensor and
has a built-in 5-Axis Image Stabilisation (IS) system that can achieve
up to 5 EV steps of stability.
The interchangeable-lens camera has a shutter release lag of just
44ms and includes a new Colour Profile feature that takes colour or
monochrome photos with the look of classic film types.
The PEN-F is the first Olympus PEN model with a built in
viewfinder, using a 2.36-million-
dot OLED.
The new PEN-F’s classic
design features milled-metal,
click-detented dials and control
switches featuring diamond-cut
edges. A new 20-megapixel Live
MOS sensor and the Truepic VII
imaging engine gives the PEN-F the
highest imaging resolution amongst
Olympus compact system cameras.
Other features include a swivelling high-resolution touchscreen
LCD and detachable FL-LM3 f lash included; 4K time lapse movie;
Focus bracketing mode changes the focus location while capturing
multiple images during sequential shooting; high-speed sequential
shooting: 10fps with S-AF, 5fps with C-AF, 20fps in silent mode.

Leica launches waterproof X-U
German camera maker Leica has released the X-U, the company’s first dedicated
waterproof, shockproof and dustproof camera. The new model is built around a
16.2-megapixel APS-C format CMOS sensor and a fixed Summilux 23 mm f/1.7 ASPH
lens (35mm equivalent).
The camera, which is waterproof to a depth of 15m, offers a minimum focusing
distance of 20cm and a built-in f lash that’s unusually positioned at the front of the lens
to minimise the dramatic light fall off that occurs underwater.
Video is available in a choice of 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720 pixel resolution at 30 full
frames per second in MP4 video format.
Leica says the “shock-resistant, winterised, dust-sealed, and
shatter proof ” camera is not just ideal for underwater
photography, it is also well suited to travel, architecture,
and landscape photography.
Conceived by Audi Design, the X-U uses an
aluminium top plate, anodised aluminium control dials
and a double locking system for the battery compartment
and memory card slot.
The Leica X-U (Typ 113) is on sale
now with a recommended retail
price of $5,200. An optional
Leica Floating Carrying Strap is
available for $95.
