Scrub
up!
Lauren Conradexplains how
to clean your brushes right: run
them under lukewarm water. Put
lukewarm water in a bowl and
add a squirt of shampoo. Gently
swirl the brush tip in the water.
Rinse the brush. Repeat
until water runs clear.
Allow to dry.

The blur brush
Foundation brushes used to be
straight up flat, like a paintbrush.
But in the last few years, blurring
brushes have taken the makeup
world by storm. Invest in one that’s
heavy in bristles – that’s key to the
blurring factor, coz they’ll move
product seamlessly across your
skin. Just apply foundation with
your fingers and use the brush in
circular motions to blend.

@ Mecca Beautiful Finish brush, $47

The concealer
brush
Applying your concealer with
a brush will change your life.
Blending concealer with one of
these guys is like one minute
there’s a pimple, next minute,
gone. The best way to use these
brushes is to pat concealer in,
working along the edges
to blend it invisibly in
with your foundation.

    concealer brush, $6.95 4. UBU
    concealer brush, $5.50

All over (^)
powder brush
Max staying power and matte skin
are yours with an all-over powder
brush. The soft bristles will add
your powder sparingly, meaning
no weird white patches and
no obvious powdery finish.

  1. Manicare powder brush, $14.99

  2. MAC large powder brush 150,
    $85 7. elf Australia powder brush, $3

Lip brush
Still trying to master the
perfect red lip? The trick is
using a lip brush. Makeup
artists use it all the time
and you can run your colour
right along the edges of your
lips without smudging.

  1. Charlotte Tilbury Lip Brush, $38

  2. elf Australia Lip Defining Brush, $3

Brow brush
Brows are pretty much the one
thing you can sculpt and shape
with makeup for school and no
teacher is gonna be like, “Wipe
that muck off your face stat”. So
having an angled brow brush is
a must. These make applying
powder naturally really easy –
just stroke through your brows
in the direction hair grows.

  1. Billion Dollar Brows @ Mecca brow
brush, $23 11. Artiste Double Ended
    brow brush, $9.95

Blending
shadow brush
There are loads of shadow brush
types for all different techniques
like shading, crease shading and
lining. But the one brush for eyes
you def should have is a blending
brush. These make adding a slick
of shadow a complete breeze. Just
hold vertically so the ends of the
bristles hit the crease of your lid
and sweep side-to-side.

shadow brush, $47 13. Beauty Essentials
eye shadow brush, $6.99 14. ModelCo
brush 03, $24

What
are those?!
These alien-looking things
are makeup sponges, used to
blend foundation. They’re rad
for adjusting coverage levels,
because they’ll only apply a light
wash of colour, which you can
build. You soak them in
water, squeeze out the
excess and then pat
foundation onto your
skin with them.

  1. BYS blending sponge,
    and 16. precision sponge,
    $6.95 each
