THE USE OF INDOOR PLANTS as decor items has had a resurgence. But
what types are trending? We asked Richard Unsworth, owner of Garden Life
in St Peters, Sydney (Gardenlife.com.au), to give us the lowdown on what’s
hot in the indoor plant world. Read on...
1//STEPHANOTIS FLORIBUNDA Hanging planters with cascading climbers are
the new “it” plant. This one’s native to Africa, Madagascar and Asia, and is happy in
filtered light but will only flower in direct sun. Also try mistletoe cactus and devil’s ivy.
2//PEPEROMIA Small plants in petite decorative pots add an element of freshness
to any bedside table vignette or kitchen benchtop. Choose one with dark, waxy,
textured leaves, like a peperomia, for a hint of drama, and a striking pot to match.
3//FATSIA JAPONICA Plants with large glossy leaves are perfect for creating
a relaxed, tropical vibe. More trending types are philodendron or Ficus elastica
(rubber plant). Elevate them on a table, bench or pedestal in dappled light. A
