o, what is this look all about? It’s about embracing
the key designs of the mid-Twentieth Century and
making them work in a fresh and contemporary
setting. I think it’s a perfect look for the living room.
Where do you start? I like to start with the sofa. It will be
the focal point of your space and the hero mid-century piece.
You might even buy a matching pair, like the ones I’ve used.
What other furniture pieces do you need? Well, as it’s
a living room, a coffee table is a must, but this is where
you can step away from the mid-century vibe and go for
something contemporary. To tie it in, echo an element of
the sofa – it could be the shape, scale, colour. I’ve chosen
a coffee table in the same timber tone as the sofa legs.
And accent furniture? There are some great mid-century
armchair-ottoman combos that you can use for more seating.
With the upholstery, I recommend you choose a fresh colour
to keep it modern – think light blue, beige or grey.
What about accessories? That’s simple: keep them textured
and neutral. Cushions, throws, rugs... pale tones in nubbly,
