Lee Filters adds hard ND grads to range
Lee Filters has announced the release of a new range of medium-
and hard- neutral density (ND) graduated filters.
Previously only available as custom-made
ND filters for professional photographers, Lee’s
latest additions feature a ‘medium’ strength
transition that sits between the traditional ‘hard’
and ‘soft’ grades.
According to Lee, the new filters allow for more
exact control when balancing lighter and darker areas of
the frame and are suitable for use on the Seven5, 100mm and
SW150 systems.

Lee Filters says the new Very Hard grad (available for the 100mm &
SW150 systems) is perfect for seascapes that feature a completely f lat
horizon line, while the Medium Grad (available for the Seven5,
100mm and SW150 systems) is ideal for scenes in which
an element of the composition – a mountain or a
building, for example – protrudes into the sky.
Both ND grads are available in 0.3ND (
stop), 0.45ND (1½ stops), 0.6ND (2 stops),
0.75ND (2½ stops), 0.9ND (3 stops) and 1.2ND
(4 stops) strengths.

DJI announces micro four-thirds
Osmo Raw

Aerial imagery specialist, DJI, has announced its micro four-thirds Zenmuse
X5R camera – as fitted to the DJI Inspire 1 drone – will be available for the
Osmo handheld image-stabilisation system.
The new system, Osmo Raw, will see the X5R attach to the Osmo
handle via an adaptor and store video and still images on a removable
512GB solid-state drive.
The unit features three-axis stabilisation via gimbal motors, with pan and
tilt functions accessible by using the Osmo’s thumb stick or through the DJI
Go app operated on a mobile phone or tablet. Users can also control focus and
aperture inside the iOS or Android app or with an optional DJI Focus unit.
DJI says the X5R is the world’s smallest, lossless 4K camera optimised for
aerial imaging and has 12.8 stops of dynamic range, an ISO range from 100
to 25,600, and a still-image resolution of 16 megapixels.
The X5R also features interchangeable lens options, with video bitrates
averaging 1.7Gbps, with a maximum of 2.4Gbps. The X5R records
CinemaDNG files and offers a new D-LOG mode to provide more colour-
correction options in post.
Also available is the micro four-thirds X5 camera and gimbal, called the
Osmo Pro, which uses the same adaptor as the X5R. ❂

Matrice 600 professional drone launched by DJI

DJI has introduced the Matrice 600 (M600)
drone for professional aerial photography,
filmmaking and industrial applications.
The M600 integrates the manufacturer’s new
A3 onboard f light controller and features advanced
Lightbridge 2 video-transmission technology that
offers high frame rates and HD live-streaming
capability at distances up to five kilometres.
The M600 features a six-rotor system with
a maximum payload of six kilograms, making
it suitable for the full range of DJI’s Zenmuse
gimbals, including the Z15 series and the
Zenmuse X series cameras.
The M600’s carrying weight also allows it to
f ly the Ronin MX, DJI’s newest handheld and
aerial three-axis gimbal.
The M600’s propulsion system is dustproof
to simplify maintenance and increase durability
and it has actively cooled motors for more
reliable f light, and retractable landing gear for
full 360-degree, unobstructed imaging.
The M600 is powered by six DJI intelligent

batteries and its customised battery
management system and power distribution
board allow all six batteries to be turned on and
off via one button and keep the system aloft,
should a single battery fail.
The M600 will f ly up to 36 minutes with
a Zenmuse X5 camera attached and up to
16 minutes with a larger camera, such as a
Red Epic.
The M600 supports the DJI GO app, which
includes a live video feed, battery and redundancy
status, transmission strength and other data to
keep the user informed of f light status at all
times. The app also provides access to aperture,
shutter speed, photo and video capture on any
Zenmuse X-series camera, plus remote focus on
the Zenmuse X5 and X5R cameras.
The M600’s retail price, including
the integrated A3 f light controller with
Lightbridge 2 and a full set of batteries, is
US$4,599. Bundled with a Ronin MX it will
sell for US$5,999.
