I
t’s not uncommon for people
to dig up dirt on Presidential
Candidates ahead of an
election in the US. Such was
the case last week, when a tape
of Republican candidate Donald
Trump saying he “could and
would have had sex with Princess
Diana” was once more brought
to public attention.
According to palace insiders, the
royal family, in particular Diana’s
youngest son Prince Harry, were
deeply off ended by the comments,
with the Windsors never once
imagining they’d be swept up in
US pre-election politics.
Th e lewd recording originally
aired just weeks after Diana, then
36, died tragically in a car accident
in 1997. Businessman Donald made
the bizarre comments on Howard
Stern’s radio show , on which he
was a regular guest at the time.
Th e 69-year-old was interviewed
once more about Diana in 2000 ,
when he said: “She had the height,
she had the beauty, she had the
skin.” He then went on to insult
Diana when he said her only
downfall was that she was “crazy”.
While Harry, 31 , and brother
William, 33 , were just boys when
their mother died, Donald’s
comments have no doubt fully hit
home this second time around.
Th e prince, who has inherited
his mother’s philanthropic nature,
often recalls fond memories of their
time together. He’s also revealed
she’s never far from his mind.
“Every day, I know I do and I’m
sure William does as well, whatever
we do, wherever we are and
whoever we’re with, I particularly
always wonder what she’d think,
what she’d be doing if she was
with us now,” Harry has said.
“Th at’s what keeps us going
every day – that thought of what
would she be like if she was
around today.”
