MAKE-UP BRUSH HOLDER
This is one DIY dream that is not only fun to make, but will
also add the perfect touch to any dresser or side table in your
room. It’s customisable, so you can match it to your colour
scheme. Get creative by using a bunch of different shades!
Estimated making time: 1 hour
Approximate cost: $8

YOU’LL NEED:
A 1 glass
A Table salt
A 3 pieces of plain cardboard to work on
A Chalk in 2 tonal colours
(e.g. light blue and dark blue)

TO MAKE:
1 Fill a glass with salt (halfway to three-quarters full looks
good), then tip it out on to plain cardboard and divide into
three equal piles (these will make for the different coloured
layers in the glass when you’re fi nished). Move two of the
salt piles on to different pieces of cardboard.
2 For the fi rst pile, begin to colour the salt by rubbing over
it with the darkest piece of chalk that you have. The longer
you do this, the darker the colour will turn out to be.
3 Carefully pick up the cardboard, before curling it into
a cone and then pouring the coloured salt into the glass.
Give the glass a slight shake to level the salt out.
4 Take both the dark- and light-coloured chalk and colour
the second salt pile using a combination of both colours.
This colour should look slightly lighter than the previous pile.
If need be, add more plain white salt to lighten. Repeat step
3, this time being careful when shaking to level the salt out.
5 Repeat colouring the salt with the lightest coloured chalk
only. For this last pile, you will only need a faint colour
so press very lightly. Then, repeat step 3 again.
6 Push your brushes into the salt and then you’re fi nished! a
