Something else he avoids: machines.
“I prefer cables or a [medicine] ball
because it allows for a freer range
of movement,” he says.
As he approaches his mid-40s,
Beckford plans to continue to


compete. “I feel the best I’ve ever
felt, so I can’t see any reason why
I should stop,” he says.
Above all, Beckford hopes any middle-
aged man with an inkling to own
washboard abs takes something away
from his story: “You have to believe it
can be done,” he says.
To get going, use Beckford’s abs

workout. If it’s not enough of
a challenge, increase the reps
rather thanthe weight.
“I do different exercises now and
then but always come back to the
ones in this program,” says Beckford.
“It will carve detail, and the cardio
aspect of this superset is great for
burning extra calories.”
