Where’s Dungog: At the foothills of the Barrington Tops.
You can make it a day trip on the train up to Dungog.
Where in Dungog: 120 Dowling Street. The store is right next
door to a cafe. Quilting, coff ee and cake – what more could
a quilter want?
Who plays host: Owner Carol-Ann Cummings has been
running the shop for the past 13 years.
Worth visiting because: The shop is absolutely full to the brim
with more than 1,200 patchwork fabrics, including backings,
chenille, minky, flannels and cottons. For your haberdashery
needs, I have buttons, elastics, ribbons, hooks and eyes, zippers
and scissors. If playing with yarn is more your thing, I have
Patons, Cleckheaton, Shepherd and Heirloom yarns, along with
all accessories you need. Battings, Pellon and interfacing are
available, and I also stock Janome sewing machines and the
accessories. And with classes running four times a week,
there’s never a dull moment in store. The shop is open Mon to
Fri 9am-4pm, but closed on the first Monday of each month.
What we recommend: Why not try some Sue Daley paper
piecing using Sewline products to make a lovely table runner,
bag or quilt? I also have a selection of Sally Giblin’s ‘Rivendale
Collection’ patterns, which have easy-to-read instructions, and
they make lovely gifts.

Where’s
Orange:^
About an
hour’s drive
west of
Bathurst;
a perfect
destination
when
heading
across
NSW.
Where in
Orange:
2/25 Sale
Street.
Right next
door to LJ
Hooker.
There is one-hour parking in Sale Street, with two-hour parking
nearby in the Council car park adjacent to Woolies supermarket
and Harris Farm Market. The store is located in a red-brick house,
which has been converted for use by a variety of businesses.

Who plays host: Owner Delma Watts.
Worth visiting because: A little over a year ago, Bella
Patchwork Designs moved to a new, bigger store. I like to
keep the store stocked full of bright fabrics, and we are
known throughout the region for the large range of Kaff e
Fassett fabrics. I also have his upholstery range in stock.
Kits are available in Kaff e Fassett colours and fabrics, as
well as black and white fabrics, and the 1930s reproduction
ranges. I’m in the process of putting more kits together,
and these can be custom designed around your colour
requirements. Visitors are welcome between 10am
and 5pm each weekday and usually on Saturday
from 10am to 1pm.
What we recommend: Designer Julie McLane is in store
frequently for weekend workshops, and class attendees are
often the first group to create her new patterns. Patchwork
and sewing classes are run several days during the week.
Beginners are always welcome to come in, and I am
more than happy to help with design ideas.
