Preparation and cutting

From the main print fabric,
refer to Diagram 1 and cut:


  • One square, 4^3 ⁄ 4 in (Square-in-
    a-Square block centre)

  • One strip, 3^1 ⁄ 2 x 12^1 ⁄ 2 in (left border)

  • One strip, 2 x 12^1 ⁄ 2 in (right border)

  • Two rectangles, 3^1 ⁄ 2 x 6^1 ⁄ 2 in
    (Flying Geese).

From the contrast print
fabric/s, cut:


  • Two squares, 4^1 ⁄ 2 in and cut them


once on the diagonal to yield a total
of four half-square triangles (Square-
in-a-Square block corners)


  • Four squares, 3^1 ⁄ 2 in (Flying
    Geese ends).

From the ivory linen, cut:


  • Two rectangles, 10^3 ⁄ 4 x 12^1 ⁄ 2 in
    (cushion back)

  • One rectangle, 13^1 ⁄ 2 x 17^1 ⁄ 2 in
    (front lining)

  • One rectangle, 4^3 ⁄ 4 x 12^1 ⁄ 2 in
    (wide front panel)

  • One strip, 1^3 ⁄ 4 x 12^1 ⁄ 2 in (narrow
    front panel).


Square-in-a-Square block

With right sides together, sew a
contrast print half-square triangle
to opposite sides of the 4^3 ⁄ 4 in main
fabric square. Take care not to stretch
the bias edges. Press the seams
