LOVING

SO, YOU’RE READY to embrace a new colour

palette and bring a new mood to your home.

Whether you just want to add an accent,

or go for a full-blown scheme, there are

some must-know tricks to getting it right.

The first thing you need is a little background

on colour – specifically, what defines

a colour as warm or cool. Wendy

Rennie, the colour and concept manager

at Haymes Paint says to think of the colour

wheel. “The yellows, oranges and reds are

warm, as they make you think of sunlight

and heat. While, blues, greens and violets

are on the opposite side of the colour wheel

and remind us of water or the sky, which

feel cooler.” But it goes further than that.

Colours have undertones, so, for

example, you can get blues that have red

in them, making them warmer, or reds that

have a blue tint, making for a cooler hue. A
