Whether you just want to add an accent,
or go for a full-blown scheme, there are
some must-know tricks to getting it right.
The first thing you need is a little background
on colour – specifically, what defines
a colour as warm or cool. Wendy
Rennie, the colour and concept manager
at Haymes Paint says to think of the colour
wheel. “The yellows, oranges and reds are
warm, as they make you think of sunlight
and heat. While, blues, greens and violets
are on the opposite side of the colour wheel
and remind us of water or the sky, which
feel cooler.” But it goes further than that.
Colours have undertones, so, for
example, you can get blues that have red
in them, making them warmer, or reds that
have a blue tint, making for a cooler hue. A
