“I grew up in Bayside Melbourne in a house built in the 1900s,” Andrew says. “The house
was built by an owner-builder influenced by American architecture and in particular
Thomas Jefferson’s house, Monticello, in Virginia, USA. It had a large columned portico,
red brick and white rendered pelmets. It influenced me to think about crafting a space
with rigorous attention to materials and simple strong proportions.” A
