12 | AUSTRALIAN HOUSE & GARDEN

YOUR H&G

Reading The Wonder Years (January) brought
back memories of my own childhood in the country

  • the time spent outdoors, the treehouse and of
course, the animals. Living on the land gives you
a true sense of freedom. These moments in time
    are well worth treasuring.
    Teresa Carbone, Hawker, ACT

Floral tribute
I have been an Australian House &
Garden reader for a long time and
Botanica has become one of my
favourite pages. I think it would make
a wonderful series of artworks! As a
wannabe florist, I have learnt a lot from
this page and enjoyed making flower
arrangements for friends and for home.
Always a delight to finish on.
Jodi Moresi, Maiden Gully, Victoria

Dinner winner
I just loved Lisa’s December editor’s
letter. I had completely forgotten about
the practice of handing out after-dinner
mints! It also had me searching for a
well-thumbed but long-forgotten book
on dinner etiquette. Thanks Lisa, it was
a really fun way to settle into the issue.
Donna Kelly, Glenlyon, Victoria

The green team
I always enjoy Sarah Pickette’s Green
House column and was particularly
interested to learn about Nespresso’s

convenient method of recycling coffee
capsules (Grounds Zero, December).
Just a tip: if posting the capsules, don’t
bother to rinse them out; if you do,
you must ensure they are completely
dry. The recycling plant can separate
the residual coffee for composting
before shredding and melting down
the casings for reuse.

No place like home
Even though my travelling days are
over, I was delighted to read that one
lucky reader will win a safari holiday
in Africa. Having lived in Zimbabwe
for 65 years before settling in Australia,
it took me some time to forget my
home there and the exciting safaris
we undertook yearly. However, the
competition question – “Tell us why
home is where your heart is” – made
me realise that my home is in this
country, in the home we have created
with inspiration from H&G.
Felicity Rooney, Sale, Victoria
