WHAT THEY KEPTWith a bimonthly schedule,Wonder Woman
toggles between two story lines: her present-day
adventures and her origin story. This allows Rucka
to revisit characters who are central to Wonder
Woman mythology, like best friend Etta Candy
and love interest Steve Trevor. “We’re going to
make Trevor cool again,” Rucka promises.
WHAT’S NEWAfter Sharp reimagined Wonder Woman’s
longtime enemy Cheetah, Rucka was inspired
to give Cheetah a bigger role in the comic.
Sharp also updated Wonder Woman’s costume,
giving it an armored look similar to the outfit
Gal Gadot sports in DC’s blockbuster films.
“She’s been in a lot of battles, she’s been 10
years in the world, and it shows in the costume,”
Sharp says. “So my version’s very battered.
It’s a utilitarian piece of kit that lets her move.”GREEN ARROW

WHAT THEY KEPTFellow superhero Black Canary remains
essential to theseries. “It might as
well be calledGreen Arrow and Black
Canary,” Percy says. “Green Arrow doesn’t
work without her; it’s like a yin without
a yang. There’s a collective element to their
relationship where she serves not only
as a love interest but also as a conscience.
I can’t imagine writing the series without
her. She’s such a badass.”
WHAT’S NEWWithin the first few pages of this new Green
Arrow, the titular hero makes a point of declaring
himself a “social justice warrior.” The approach
embeds Green Arrow smack in the middle of
current issues. The first enemy he encounters,
for example, is a grotesque cabal of “1 percent”
billionaires called the Ninth Circle.THE FLASH

WHAT THEY KEPTThe Flash, a.k.a. Barry Allen, stays true to his orig-
inal character. “The bottom line is that powers
don’t make him the hero,” Williamson says. “He
was a hero before the powers, and he would be
a hero without them. It’s part of who he is.”
WHAT’S NEWWilliamson created a supernatural lightning
storm that gave super-speed powers to dozens
of other Central City citizens. One of them,
August Heart, forms a mirror to the Flash—the
Aaron Burr to his Alexander Hamilton, if you will.
“Barry’s a character who’s obsessed with justice,
but August is obsessed with revenge,” Williamson
says. “I enjoy writing characters who poke and
prod. That’s not Barry. So August allowed me
to see the story through his eyes. He’ll play an
important part in the story throughout the run.”ooyors GSTales of the TapeStephen Fry has recHolmes, a collection of Arthur Conan Doand novels.• Strange But TrueAncho
