NORDIC HACK: ADD COLOUR TO UNLIKELY PLACES
Another thing Scandinavians do exactly right (other than perfect bicycles,
knitsandblondeBondgirls)isthesurgicalandthoughtfuluseofpaint–onfloors,
furniture, trim and ceilings, and as a sparing accent against walls of cloud white.

DECLUTTER
Don’t over complicate
things. Choose smaller,
lightweight pieces,
especially for the main
items. Sofas with feet will
feel less bulky, elevating
them and making them
seem lighter. Coffee and
side tables with frames
instead of solid bases
allow for other elements
to be seen through them
and don’t feel so intrusive.

LIGHT UP
Lighting can totally alter
how a space feels. Firstly,
a slightly warm light will
be a lot more inviting than
a cold blue one. Then,
select areas to focus on:
down lighters in the
functional areas such
as the kitchen and more
play with pendants over
a dining table. Table lights
are great to create a cosy
space, while LED strip
lights under shelving add
extra detail.

LAYER
Get bedside lighting in
a brass fi nish to add
a masculine luxe fi nish.
Large scatter cushions
are an opportunity to add
colour and texture. Other
styling layers can be
added such as beautiful
books, a darker toned
wall behind the bed,
a simple geometric rug
and even a beautiful black
and white drawing or print
