Marie Claire Australia — June 2017

Jessica Marais has questions for the
Australian Government: “Can you please
explain to me why we are still talking
about marriage equality in 2017? Can
we just have an honest answer about
why same-sex marriage is still not legal?”
The Love Child actor’s outrage
is founded – the current laws have
forced many of her loved ones to move
overseas to have their relationship legally
acknowledged. “Having to do that makes
them feel unwanted and unsupported
in the country they’re from,” she says.
“Knowing that other people don’t have
the same rights that I have makes me feel
angry, powerless and very disappointed.”
To the gay community still fighting
for equal rights, her message is loud and
clear: “I hear you, I acknowledge you and
I support you. I stand beside you, and
until we all belong, I will be with you.”
