GEMMMMAAA WWAARD
When the United States legalised gay marriage in 2015,
supermodel Gemma Ward was thrilled to be part of the
New York celebrations. “I was there for the rally with my
friends who are lesbians and it was so exciting. The [pride]
flags were out and there was so much love and relief in the
air,” she recalls. “I want that for our country.” The issue affects
many close to Ward, 29, who is mum to three-year-old
Naia and three-month-old Jet. Her sister-in-law married
her partner overseas and Ward says it breaks her heart that
their marriage isn’t legal in Australia. “Gay people are being
excluded and it’s upsetting and backwards,” she says. “The
