admits Tognetti of the shaping of the score. “It’s very
hard to take an extant piece of music and craft it to a
film, so with the classical music – the Vivaldi, Beethoven

etc.–Iwouldgivethattothedirectors[Peedomand
Ozturk]andgetthemtocraftthefilmaroundthemusic.
Whereasifyouarecomposingmusic,youcraftitaround
thefilm.Thereisabigdifference.”
Asforhisoriginalcompositions,hesays:“Someof
themarefilmic,someofthemcreatedreamscapes.”
Peedomknewthatshewantedsomekindofnarrative
voiceinthefilm.Yearsearlier,shehadreadMacfarlane’s
2003 bookMountainsoftheMind–afascinating
investigation into our emotional and imaginative
responsestomountains,andhowthathaschangedover
the last three centuries. Woven through that meditation

theideabecamealotmorefocussed.Ithinkinitially
we’dbeencastingamuchbroadernet...butit
became about our fascination with mountains,
howtheymeanmanythingstopeople,andabout
the landscape and our interaction with it.”
