While Hong Kong is famed for its
Cantonese cuisine, there are plenty of
places mixing things up. SoHo’s cheekily
named Ho Lee Fook (which the restaurant
claims means ‘good fortune for your
mouth’) was inspired by old cha chaan
tengs (local diners). The mahjong-tiled
kitchen serves up plays on Canto classics,
such as soy-glazed Wagyu short ribs and
prawn toast with shaved cabbage.
In the CBD suburb of Admiralty, Dim
Sum Library refashions the yum cha
dining tradition by ofering intricately
crafted and steamed treats for sharing
— including black garlic siu mai pork
dumplings and Hokkaido king crab
and sea urchin spring rolls. Vegetarians
can order the likes of wild mushroom
dumplings with beetroot and steamed
matsutake mushroom bao. Finish with
tofu panna cotta or oolong tea ice-cream.
