Fendi is hosting aspectacular exhibition
devoted to the work of contemporary
artist Giuseppe Penone (above). Housed
on the ground floor of the high-end fashion
label’s compound at the Palazzo della
Civiltà Italiana (below), Penone’s organic
sculptures of fir trees, branches and tree
trunks contrast with the austere geometry
of the historic building, which was designed
in 1937. The exhibition is titled Matrice,
ater one of the artist’s most arresting
works from 2015: a sculpture of the trunk
of a fir tree, which is almost 30 metres in
length. The show is a further demonstration
of Fendi’s commitment to art, design and
culture in Rome — the city that the luxury
brand calls home. Showcasing iconic works
alongside new pieces, the exhibition, which
runs until 16 July, was curated by Penone and
artistic director of New York’s New Museum,
Massimiliano Gioni. http://www.fendi.com.
Furla 90th Anniversary Collection
Can a handbag be a time machine? Furla is
banking on exactly that with the release of its
new Metropolis bag designed to travel across
90 years of the Italian luxury house’s history. The
new collection is available in five colours but the
real joy is the nine interchangeable flaps that each
encapsulate a decade in the history of the fashion
house — from the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz
Age of the 1930s, through to the Swinging Sixties
and the disco days of the 1970s, and ending with
a silver laminate flap to commemorate the tech
advancements during the 2000s. http://www.furla.com.
